For demonstrating Respect, Resilience and Excellence particularly Resilience. You have matured wisely beyond your age having gone through your parents divorce, your mum being diagnosed with a chronic illness and losing her job, being strapped for money at a time when you needed it most, being under financial assistance from government, undergoing counselling to overcome your family’s challenges at family service centre, having a social worker monitoring your family for a period of time. Those were the tough times.

You rise. You rise through these challenges with flying colours, my dear. It is now time to pay it forward ๐Ÿ’œ

To all children coming from single parent families don’t ever be bogged down by stigma. Don’t ever think you are doomed for life. Don’t ever look down on yourself. Keep your spirits high and prove to yourself that you can achieve whatever you set your heart to. I know how painful it can feel when only one parent turn up for your parent teachers meeting, or times when your family have to attend weddings/ gatherings, or times when you have to fill up school forms and only have one parent details to update and especially when your friends share about their mum & dad’s musings at home and you can only listen and smile….

You can only be bigger and better no matter what kind of family you come from!!

Life is not just about bedtime stories and literacy or about learning words like ‘he’ ‘she’ ‘it’ ‘the’ ‘is’, it’s ALSO about encouraging a child to stand up and walk again when he falls, to keep looking up when life gets gloomy, to continue attempting his tasks again and again no matter how difficult they may be, to focus on his goals with laser precision. ๐Ÿ’œ
